God Of War's Norse installments in an Amazon Studios live-action production.


Just only having this single preview still, NorsePlay feels hesitant about a live-action God Of War TV series adaptation, but to say anything without giving this a chance would be unfair. And honestly, I want more NorsePlay, not less, and Sony's franchise shift to re-nest Kratos within a Norse Mythology context really got the lore alot of attention, which we appreciate.

Since this photo was taken Ryan Hurst in the picture above suffered an unfortunate bicep tearing stunt injury, but the upshot is that the role got handed to Dave Bautista, which feels more of an angry/gruff/strong-silent emotive fit for Kratos, plus he's actually half-Greek.

Sight unseen the show has already been commissioned for a second season, which feels promising given the series' intent to cover both GoW & GoW: Ragnarok, since it would be crushingly disappointing if they didn't get to the second more dynamic installment and finale.

Looking at cherub cheeked Atreus Callum Vinson, it's probably going to be even harder watching Kratos over-sternly parent him, and effective when Atreus as a result begins to withhold trust to skirt betrayal of his father while sampling his independence.

What I would also hope for the series would be more populace in the Nine Worlds. The games' settings were pretty, but as Kratos & Atreus ran around main/side questing, there really wasn't alot of NPCs in that first installment compared to the swathes of real estate on its maps that had implications of occupation at one time. It would be good to just have more faces for them to interact with, and folks in the landscape to show the realms as living and functional places as opposed to cool puzzle levels to speed run through.

While many videogame to film/TV adaptations tend to just be awful studio tax writeoffs, Amazon's success with Fallout shows that it can be satisfyingly done with appeal beyond the console audience, so NorsePlay looks forward to see how this goes. And just maybe we'll get some more cool t-shirts too.

NorsePlay's a Byrnaserker!

What's always bothered me about the iconic Torslunda helmet plates is there's wolfen Ulfhednar and boar-helmeted Svinfylking, but no actual bear-headed Berserkir since the former two are a specialized Fylgja-centric subset of the broader elite warrior Berserker category. So after weeks of questing for visual references followed by 12+ hours of fierce digital holmganga with a desktop graphics program, NorsePlay has victoriously filled in this archaeological werebear art blank to give us aspiring bearshirts an image to identify with, which I then specifically theme-crafted for my custom Byrna LE's holster: Just as one names a weapon of note in the Edda s & Sagas, I've named my kinetic/pepperball/teargas chemical ball launcher Ǫndbítr ( ᚭᚿᛐᛓᛁᛐᛧ ), meaning Breath-Biter, because this is exactly what it does -- it effectively robs potential assailants of their breath when hit . Map Of Midgard Project update: Final goal of 1000+ mappoints exceeded! What's next?

I've successfully plotted 1100+ mappoints for my Map Of Midgard Project! This is the ninth progress update since  the initial blog post ,  the first update ,  the second update ,  the third update ,  the fourth update ,  the fifth update ,  the sixth update , the seventh update , and the eighth update . What marks this as a watershed is that aggregating mappoints is now "complete", and the Map Of Midgard Project can move one huge step forward towards publishing physical maps! When originally starting this project over seven years ago , I imagined that there would be fewer than 100 mappoints. Then finding literature-to-location correspondences exponentially grew into far, far more than I'd imagined. Even with over 1100, there's more out there, but I feel that stickpinning a thousand-plus mappoints is a massive accomplishment and contribution of aggregation & original research to the field of Norse Lore.
