(Vikings:) Bloodaxe is coming. 📺🪓 🩸🩸🩸

From Vikings on History Channel to Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix and now to Amazon Prime for another offering, Bloodaxe!

Note, however, that Bloodaxe is being announced not as a continuation of the previous series, despite being made by the same producer. Yet given this, NorsePlay suspects it may as well unofficially be a third series and was very likely desired by Amazon as such to obtain the pre-existing fanbase, and we predict will likely be marketed as closely as such in all but name without crossing the line of actually saying that's exactly what it is.

Executive producer & writer Michael Hirst of the previous shows adds his son Horatio Hirst to the creator credits. Focusing on the legendary eponymous Eric Bloodaxe (ON: Eiríkr Blóðøx) and his queen Gunnhild's sanguine rise to the throne of Norway, this show in its early 2027 pre-release has already secured a second season, which should say something about the studio confidence behind it.

[There's no stills yet for the show as of this writing, so here's the 2026 Cameroon "The Way to Valhalla" Eric Bloodaxe 2 oz .999 Silver Antiqued Coin limited to 500!]

Provided this show's historical throughline goes past its stated premise (after all Vikings ran six seasons, two of those after the demise of its central protagonist), NorsePlay would love to to see the intersections of Bloodaxe with berserker-skald Egill Skallagrímsson, or if not, perhaps make Egill the focus of a fourth series.

In any case, we're glad to get more show material visually telling the legendary stories in a modern episodic medium.

Floki: The Fallen God series announced ... or not?

Image
4/2026 Addended Forward: This series has not materialized, and at this point  we suspect this image and its accompanying announcements were part and parcel of wishful thinking from fans on the internet whose posts gained enough search engine weight to seem a reality.  Otherwise it wouldn't be out of the question to think this had gotten tossed around actual pitch discussions at Netflix, and maybe the image was part of that? Either way, our initial post's fan-theory exploring the character is an interesting one relevant to the original series, whether Floki gets his own series or not, so I've added this forward to the original entry that follows to allow for what now seems to maybe be disinformation, and not deleting it on the outside chance that it's not. Will update this forward should anything more be determined. ___________________________ Netflix will launch a second Vikings spinoff into its stream on December 1st, Floki: The Fallen God . This title alone pla...

NorsePlay's a Byrnaserker!

Image
What's always bothered me about the iconic Torslunda helmet plates is there's wolfen Ulfhednar and boar-helmeted Svinfylking, but no actual bear-headed Berserkir since the former two are a specialized Fylgja-centric subset of the broader elite warrior Berserker category. So after weeks of questing for visual references followed by 12+ hours of fierce digital holmganga with a desktop graphics program, NorsePlay has victoriously filled in this archaeological werebear art blank to give us aspiring bearshirts an image to identify with, which I then specifically theme-crafted for my custom Byrna LE's holster: Just as one names a weapon of note in the Edda s & Sagas, I've named my kinetic/pepperball/teargas chemical ball launcher Ǫndbítr ( ᚭᚿᛐᛓᛁᛐᛧ ), meaning Breath-Biter, because this is exactly what it does -- it effectively robs potential assailants of their breath when hit . ["This is my  Ǫndbítr! There are many like it, but this one is mine!" ~ Fullkominn...

Map Of Midgard Project update: Final goal of 1000+ mappoints exceeded! What's next?

Image
I've successfully plotted 1100+ mappoints for my Map Of Midgard Project! This is the ninth progress update since  the initial blog post ,  the first update ,  the second update ,  the third update ,  the fourth update ,  the fifth update ,  the sixth update , the seventh update , and the eighth update . What marks this as a watershed is that aggregating mappoints is now "complete", and the Map Of Midgard Project can move one huge step forward towards publishing physical maps! When originally starting this project over seven years ago , I imagined that there would be fewer than 100 mappoints. Then finding literature-to-location correspondences exponentially grew into far, far more than I'd imagined. Even with over 1100, there's more out there, but I feel that stickpinning a thousand-plus mappoints is a massive accomplishment and contribution of aggregation & original research to the field of Norse Lore. And sure, there's certainly more mappoints to ...
