Map Of Midgard Project update: Final goal of 1000+ mappoints exceeded! What's next?

I've successfully plotted 1100+ mappoints for my Map Of Midgard Project!

This is the ninth progress update since the initial blog postthe first updatethe second updatethe third updatethe fourth updatethe fifth updatethe sixth update, the seventh update, and the eighth update. What marks this as a watershed is that aggregating mappoints is now "complete", and the Map Of Midgard Project can move one huge step forward towards publishing physical maps!

When originally starting this project over seven years ago, I imagined that there would be fewer than 100 mappoints. Then finding literature-to-location correspondences exponentially grew into far, far more than I'd imagined. Even with over 1100, there's more out there, but I feel that stickpinning a thousand-plus mappoints is a massive accomplishment and contribution of aggregation & original research to the field of Norse Lore.

And sure, there's certainly more mappoints to be found, so this jumping off point is to be considered a softcapping total, as more locations could be added to the digital map, and if there's demand, allowance for scale, and time, perhaps 2.0 paper maps, but for now NorsePlay has other equally amazing research & projects in the queue before the possibility of even considering circling back to this, but I feel I've gotten all the important sites/objects/events/sightings, and then some. With this map, there's already more than enough for a lifetime of tourism, pilgrimage, & investigation.

[Map Of Midgard at the softcap total of 1121 mappoints! Yes, at this large a scale those stickpins are piled thick!]

So what's next for the Map Of Midgard? The salient work is as follows:

1. Expanding & reorganizing the map layers.

2. Copy editing existing mappoint texts.

3. Backing up the GPS & rollover description data.

4. Commissioning an artist, figuring out scale & included mappoints for the physical maps based on that scale.

5. Printing maps.

6. Listing maps.

7. Posting the digital map.

While I feel that research & stickpinning was the majority of the labour, I know the above checklist, as with any project, will probably take longer than anticipated, but I'm soooo very excited to continue the work that will get this map into your hands!

Guillermo Maytorena IV knew there was something special in the Norse Lore when he picked up a copy of the d'Aulaires' Norse Gods and Giants at age seven. Since then he's been fascinated by the truthful potency of Norse Mythology, passionately read & studied, embraced Ásatrú, launched the Map of Midgard project, and spearheaded the neologism/brand NorsePlay. If you have employment/opportunities in investigative mythology,  field research, or product development to offer, do contact him.
