the godpoles speak in Twin Peaks: Part 2.

Last time NorsePlay went pretty deep into the sacred groves of Twin Peaks, only later noticing the cereal box actually says right on the front the following spoken ingredients:

Major Briggs: Of course the modern age has changed forever the way your people live, Mr. Thorson, but my guess would be that there still remains a tremendous vestigial interest in the legends and folklore of ancient Iceland.

Einer Thorson: (smiles, doesn't have a clue) Vestigial. Absolutely.

Major Briggs: I know, speaking for myself, that I find these last remnants of a connection to a natural, more primitive, almost pagan way of life, endlessly fascinating; locally, for instance, we have the Sasquatch mythos, or Bigfoot, a large, evil smelling forest-dweller, which I suppose would correspond to your "huldufolk" or hidden people.

Einer: Trolls?

Major Briggs: Exactly.

In the extras, episode 27 director Stephen Gyllenhaal (yes, father of actors Maggie & Jake) states about TP:

"The problem with it is it's totally counter to what television is about. It was miraculous that it lasted as long as it did doing what it did, which is fly directly in the face of what Western Civilization I think is really all about which is [clicks tongue repeatedly, points at brain]. And this is not even about this, it's about something [moves open hands around in an all-encompassing circle] pagan almost which is to me very subversive and was a joy to be a participant in.

As if that wasn't ritually indicative enough from a director, there's also this pointed quote of feasting finality that maybe anticipates the late David Lynch's personal hopes for a Norse afterlife:

Judge Clinton Sternwood: The law provides us structure to guide us through paralyzing and trying times. But it requires us a vision to its procedures and higher purposes. Before we assume our respective roles in this enduring drama just let me say that when these frail shadows we inhabit now have quit the stage we'll meet and raise a glass again together in Valhalla.

[IRL Lynch was a noted wine expert & enthusiast, so having endless drinks in Asgard would suit him more than just fine.]

Is that all the TP NorseSpotting to be had? Not quite. See you 25 years later in NorsePlay's lodge's longhouse S3-centered forthcoming third  installment where the godpoles will have even more somethings to tell you ... !

Guillermo Maytorena IV knew there was something special in the Norse Lore when he picked up a copy of the d'Aulaires' Norse Gods and Giants at age seven. Since then he's been fascinated by the truthful potency of Norse Mythology, passionately read & studied, embraced Ásatrú, launched the Map of Midgard project, and spearheaded the neologism/brand NorsePlay. If you have employment/opportunities in investigative mythology,  field research, or product development to offer, do contact him.
