Map Of Midgard side update: The Path of Odin map now available at Nexus Books!

During the current ongoing backup & editing process for The Map Of Midgard, I took a four-month departure to produce a proof-of-concept Odin-specific map, the Óðinnsvegr: The Path Of Odin map, which is now for sale at Nexus Books in Tucson!

Prints are $25 USD each, and a glass & wood framed version is $75 USD. Note that in under 24-hours, the first batch of map prints have sold, and I've had to go restock them already! You may also contact me directly for purchase, and I also have plans to have them retailed at a few other venues in Tucson, and will announce that here as it happens.

Note that map purchase includes Gmail account access to the digital map with rollover story/source data and GPS coordinates! For example:


About the Óðinnsvegr: Using the 54-Odinic mappoints from the larger Map Of Midgard, I commissioned Medieval Mapmaker Jesse Kennedy, an artist who has extensive experience in hand drawing hundreds of map designs. I'd met him years ago at the Arizona Renaissance Faire, and loved his cartography, marveling at his adeptness in scripting hands & fonts, and his crisp linework (go see his MediaevalMapmaker Etsy shop for his other work!). While he no longer takes commissions, I was thankful for his execution in making this exclusive offering happen for NorsePlay.

After 7+ years of researching & working with my cartography data, it is so very gratifying to see it out in the world and bought by an enthusiastic audience! Day -1 : Deplaned! ... and it begins with me sprinting full out from one end of Phoenix's mile-long Sky Harbor Airport to the very last concourse, which of course looks very action film terrorist red flag-like. Neil Gaiman's "Norse Mythology".

Neil Gaiman faced the daunting task to adapt the narrative holy of the holies, the ur-book stories, the most ancient tales known to man from which all other tales have since flowed from: Norse Mythology . As we told a childhood friend of Neil's last month, Neil is a fearless writer, that before Neil there wasn't a great movement in the fantasy genre to use the Gods as actual intimate first & close third-person protagonists. [Neil Gaiman being fearless!] We look back at his record for this daring talent with reading pleasure:  The Sandman  (his breakout World Fantasy Award-winning graphic novel series expanding the being of Greek deity Morpheus),  American Gods  (heavily featuring Gods from various pantheons), and  Odd & the Frost Giants  (a  NorsePlay  story for children of all ages). NorsePlay Investigates: The Heavener Runestone.

I know what you're thinking: a runestone in eastern Oklahoma?!? Yet if the Norse traveled east to the Black Sea, maybe even further into Asia via the spice roads, why not the same reach past Leif's Camp in Newfoundland and extending into America via coastal circumnavigation, rivers, and portages? [detail from park sign with proposed river route & location.] So I, as a proactive Investigative Norse Mythologist , used this legendary stickpin from my Map Of Midgard Project data to go take a firsthand look at the contested Heavener Runestone. [runes with me for scale.] Objective Observations: Out in small vale of the wilderlands of Heavener stands a 9' x 9' x 2' slab of sandstone, like a huge billboard facing west. From the collapsed layers of rock behind it, it seems to have detached and neatly planted itself upright in the earth.
